Mayra Macías Raises Over $225,000 for Grassroots Campaign to Succeed Chuy García
Macías Reports Over 1,000 Donations in Q1, Building Momentum for Independent Run in Illinois’ 4th District
Chicago, IL — Mayra Macías, a Back of the Yards native and lifelong Democrat running as an independent for Illinois’ 4th Congressional District, announced today that her campaign has raised a total of $225,000 to date. Bolstered by grassroots support, Macías is in a strong financial position as she gathers signatures to get on the ballot in November.
The campaign’s strength is rooted in its grassroots support, reporting more than 1,000 total donations from over 800 individual donors. Notably, 99% of all donations to the campaign have come from individuals. This fundraising milestone ensures Macías has the resources and people power necessary to give Chicago voters a real choice.
“I am incredibly moved by the hundreds of people who have stepped up to fuel this campaign,” said Macías. “Raising $225,000 through this grassroots movement shows that the 4th District is ready for a real choice. These aren’t just numbers — they represent community members who are tired of being told their vote doesn’t matter and who want to ensure they have a choice this November. Whether it’s fighting Trump’s deportation machine or tackling the rising costs of rent and groceries, the 4th District deserves a fighter who is elected by the people, not by a handpicked succession plan. Through these donations, we are building the resources and people power necessary to fight against political corruption and ensure that this November, our community finally has a real choice at the ballot box.”
Macías continues to demonstrate that her message of affordability and democratic accountability is resonating with working-class Chicago families. Following her commitment to a people-powered campaign, Macías has not accepted a single cent in corporate PAC dollars. The campaign is currently collecting the more than 10,000 signatures required to secure Macías’s spot on the November ballot.
