Planned Parenthood Action Fund Endorses Mayra Macías for Congress

For Immediate Release

Leading Abortion Rights Group Calls Macías a “Proven Leader who Understands that Accessible and Equitable Healthcare is a Fundamental Human Right”

Chicago, IL — Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the nation’s leading advocate for reproductive healthcare and rights, today endorsed Mayra Macías for Illinois’s 4th Congressional District.

“Planned Parenthood Action Fund is proud to endorse Mayra Macías for Congress. Mayra is a proven leader who understands that accessible and equitable health care is a fundamental right,” said Alexis McGill Johnson, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Action Fund. “Mayra has fought to protect access to abortion and reproductive health care in the wake of the Dobbs decision. As we face a federal administration intent on making health care unaffordable and inaccessible, we need champions in Congress who refuse to back down. We know that Mayra will be unrelenting in the fight to protect access to sexual and reproductive health care.”

“I am deeply honored to receive the endorsement of Planned Parenthood Action Fund. From my teenage visits to Planned Parenthood in Chicago to serving on the national board, the fight for bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom is personal to me. Growing up in Back of the Yards in a working-class immigrant family, I saw firsthand how barriers to healthcare impact the strength and stability of our community,” said Macías. “Today, we are seeing pregnant women detained by ICE being denied access to reproductive healthcare. I am taking this fight to Congress where I will vote to codify abortion into federal law, so that no one is denied the care they need, and expand access to affordable, high-quality care for every family in our district.

“We cannot allow the Trump administration to turn back the clock on decades of progress. Protecting reproductive freedom requires leaders who are accountable to the people they serve — not beholden to political machines or special interests. I am running to give our community a choice and a voice in Congress that will never compromise on our fundamental rights.”

Macías, a champion for reproductive rights and affordable healthcare, served on the board of Planned Parenthood Action Fund for six years. During her tenure on the board, the organization faced several critical moments she helped navigate: the overturning of Roe, Medicaid defunding via the Big Beautiful Bill, and withholding of Title X funding from Planned Parenthood clinics. Planned Parenthood Action Fund joins a growing list of Macías’s endorsers, including End Citizens United, Congresswoman Nydia Velásquez, Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernández, Moms Fed Up PAC, and Nuestro PAC.

Despite being a lifelong Democrat, Macías launched her independent campaign to ensure that Chicago voters have a choice at the ballot box this November, following a closed-door process that attempted to hand-pick the Democratic nominee. With the Trump administration continuing its aggressive campaign to restrict abortion and contraception access nationwide, along with the rising cost of healthcare affecting the Chicago community, Macías is running to serve as a voice for Chicagoans who have been marginalized by the healthcare system and to protect their reproductive rights.
